Does anybody here have any experience with these? I've been considering getting one and modding it a little(new wheels for modern tire sizes would be about it other than some usability mods) for a bov and general work truck. Any info from personal experience would be appreciated, anything to look for when looking at one for a bov/camping/general work truck.

As a member of Steel Soldiers, MVPA and a museum... I can tell you that engine parts are hard to come by and alot of other parts will be expensive. For general off road use they are great machines-but slow on the highway. Most people that do not restore these usually re-power them. Military vehicles have a sealed ignition system and waterproof electrical systems. They are bullet proof when taken care of and are simple to work on-but like I said- they can be expensive to work on. I know a guy that looked for months for engine bearings- and did find them-from one guy.

Thanks, I joined steel soldiers and have been doing a ton of readng about the m715, and I still want one, just a cool rig. I'd just want to get a more modern wheel on it(I can get those made locally) for better tire selection, put a cb in it,2nd tank,winch if I dont score one with one and we'll see about repowering because I'm not against buying one with a blown or missing engine,I'm more concerned with finding one that's not rusted out.

check out a cucv. i got the 1 ton pickup, came w/ 4.56 gears, gov loc in the rear, np 208 transfercase(2.5 reduction) a TH400, and a 6.2 diesel. reliable setup. mines got a detroit locker in the front, 35 spline outers, lifted on hummer tires. much more parts available as well.

Sounds like a cool rig. Thanks for the link Johnny I'll check it out. I was alao wondering about which jeep parts would interchange. I found some really nice M715s that were done, just not done how I want so I'll mod one to fit what I want it to do.

we use to have a '68 Jeep/kiaser M725 ..........think 50 was top speed on the ol' girl....had the fiording kit on it and still had the surgical light in the back and them damnable gasoline heater.....we got it from the campbel fire and rescue down in se mo. have to post a pic of it.

I've been told that my Ram will disintegrate around me and the driveline will last forever so I've been looking at the M715 and also the late 40's Dodge Powerwagons. If I can find on lacking a driveline I can transplant my 1 Ton driveline and 500HP 12 valve into it when the time comes. It's kind of a tossup as to which one I go with I just know it must have at minimum a 1T frame and 8' bed. I've always liked them I just didn't have much use for the engine. If your starting from scratch you might even look into a 4BT Cummins for an engine, with an intercooler and twin turbo they'll put out about 350HP/600ft lbs and still get 30+MPG.
